What is Cable Detailing?

Cable detailing is the recording of underground electrical power distribution assets.

The location of cables, conduits, cable joints, cable and conduit ends, pits and street lights are recorded on a plan. The details are usually measured and recorded before the the assets are buried. The location is usually measured from a non moveable location such as a building line, both along the street and from the building line toward the road. The depth to the top of the asset is also measured from the finished surface height. Cable positions and depths can be located after the assets are buried, as can cable bends. Cable joints and conduit ends cannot be located after they are buried. After the assets are recorded, the measurements are added to a CAD plan for future reference.
